Digital Citizenship: Japanese artists & a tiny Mirror Mirror link for you to find

Dear Students,

When you keep a blog, people stop by to visit

SHINTARO OHATA

and then you learn about this interests.

”SANPOMICHI -hanging around-”, 2007, acrylic on canvas

This morning I had a visitor. I picked a post to reblog, please visit her link and see a slide show Japanese 3-D Art.

Her post introduced me to Shintaro Ohata.

Born in Hiroshima, 1975.
Shintaro Ohata is an artist who depicts little things in everyday life like scenes of a movie and captures all sorts of light in his work with a unique touch: convenience stores at night, city roads on rainy day and fast-food shops at dawn etc. His paintings show us ordinary sceneries as dramas. He is also known for his characteristic style; placing sculptures in front of paintings, and shows them as one work, a combination of 2-D and 3-D world.

Eiko Ishioka is a fashion designer from Tokyo. You might remember her costumes from Mirror, Mirror. I was sad to learn she died early this year, but glad her talent lives on in her work.

The blue and yellow dress that Snow White wore at the end was my favorite. I linked to a mirror mirror craft that you might enjoy. Click on mirror mirror!

Another artist from Hiroshima is fashion designer Issey Miyake. I bet you recognize his most iconic work on Steve Jobs.

Issey Miyake designed many things, but the most ubiquitous was Steve Jobs black turtleneck. There is a story behind it here that you might like.

Do you like any artists or designers from other countries? Tell me about them!
